The head of New Zealand’s largest freight forwarding company says corporates which try to extend the amount of time they take to pay their suppliers are bordering on corrupt.
Don Braid, Managing Director of Mainfreight, says it is “diabolical” that big businesses want 90 to 100 day credit terms from small suppliers and described it as “very poor business practice.”
In an interview with business commentator Rod Oram, he also called on the Government to invest more in Kiwi rail, saying growth had outstripped the ability of our roads to cope.
“Rail is an extremely effective way to move freight in this country.”
Braid also believes New Zealand business need to “go greener”. He says Mainfreight has been learning from its European subsidiaries that are using solar power and electric forklifts.
