Lord Deben, who has led the UK’s committee on climate change since 2012, has just been reappointed for another five-year term.
The committee advises the British Government on its carbon budgets (emission reduction targets) which are passed into law.
The UK was the first country to introduce legally binding targets and Deben, a former minister of agriculture, is highly regarded in the field of climate change impacts.
Rod Oram interviewed Deben when he visited New Zealand.
He explained how the UK system had garnered cross-party support and why big business also backed the approach.
