Jacinda Ardern has paid tribute to the three Fijians who died in last year’s Christchurch mosque shootings; and cheaper fuel could be on the way for motorists as the Government looks to stimulate competition at the pump.

Ardern spoke this morning at Lautoka Mosque as part of her trip to Fiji to remember Imam Hafiz Musa Patel, Ashraf Ali Razak and Ashraf Ali. She also thanked the Fijian community for their response in the aftermath.

8.The police are pleased a joint investigation has led to the sentencing of a man for black mail and having images of children being sexually abused. Earl Gary Chatterton was sentenced yesterday to four years and nine months in prison.

9.A Samoan man who the Crown says was trafficked to New Zealand and treated as a slave by a Hastings based chief. Saying contact with his family in Samoa was severely restricted. 65-year-old Joseph Matamata is on trial in the High Court in Napier, charged with trafficking 13 Samoan nationals and using them as slaves over a 26 year period.         

10.Delhi remains on edge after a third consecutive night of rioting with reports of Muslim homes and shops been targeted by MOBS. 23 people have been killed and at least 189 injured.     

11.At least seven people have reportedly died including a gunman during a shooting in the US city of Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Journal says the shooting happened at the offices of the most concourse beverage company.     

12.In Germany, a law banning professionally assisted suicide has been rejected as unconstitutional by the country’s highest court. 

13.The Independent Police Conduct Authority has released its findings regarding a sexual assault allegation against a friend of a senior officer in Palmerston North. No charges were laid  and the woman asked for the case to be reviewed when she saw the police officer’s name on a case file.

14.The Taupo Mayor says the airport upgrade will be a game changer for the regions growth. Taupo Airport will receive almost $6 million from the Provincial Growth Fund for an upgrade and expansion.

15.The MP for the Wellington suburb of Mirima wants to see more police on the beat in the area.Dozens of people turned out  to the community meeting with the police last night, saying a spate of burglaries and assaults has left them fearful.
